I&M Canal Trail/McKinley Woods Hike
- In channahon State Park, the trail passes over this dam in the DuPage River.
- The park also contains one of the only locktenders houses left along the I&M Canal Trail.
- The job of the locktender was to raise and lower boats in this lock at any time of the day or night.
- While hiking the bluffs at McKinley Woods, you’ll catch views of the I&M Canal and the I&M Canal Trail.
- The wooded ravines and high bluffs make for an unusually rugged landscape at McKinley Woods.
- In the spring, watch for swaths of wildflowers growing in the bottomland woods alongside the I&M Canal Trail.
- The I&M Canal Trail is one of the most scenic long trails in the region. The scenery is enhanced by the canal, which runs right alongisde the trail.
