Indiana Dunes State Park

Indiana Dunes State Park offers miles of great hiking. One of the best stretches of trail at the park takes you along a dune ridge, passing some of the most striking natural scenery in the Chicago area. On one side of the trail are tall white pines and black oaks rising out of a plunging ravine. On the other side, the dune drops to the shore of Lake Michigan. Views along this squiggly ridge path are best when the leaves have left the branches: On a clear day, the Chicago skyline is clearly visible 30 miles to the northwest.
