Thorn Creek Hike
- This little wooden church has been moved a couple of times before it arrived in its current location where it serves as the Thorn Creek Forest Preserve nature center.
- Thorn Creek runs thorugh a bottomland forest of black walnut, swamp white oak, basswood, ash, and slippery elm.
- While hiking, you may hear the wind whispering through groves of red and jack pines planted by farmers in the 1950s.
- In the upland areas, look for white and red oak, shagbark hickory, and white pine.
- As the trail circles Owl Lake, you’ll see this patch of water is more of a pond than a lake.
- Thorn Creek may dry up into a series of isolated pools during the summer.
