I’ve served as a volunteer hiking coach for the Illinois Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and I frequently give presentations to groups. I’m eager to give advice about how to start out hiking and biking, gear selection, and choosing the best places get outside based on your interests and abilities.
In addition to writing books, I’ve worked as a reporter for various daily and weekly newspapers and have written for both local and national magazines. Currently, I also serve as the communications director for the Active Transportation Alliance, an advocacy group that works to improve cycling, walking, and transit in the Chicago area.
After completing a bachelor’s degree from Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Michigan, I completed a master’s in writing at DePaul University in Chicago.
